Welcome

Dear Advisors and Delegates,

On behalf of the entire conference secretariat and staff, we are pleased and excited to invite you to the Brown University Simulation of the United Nations (BUSUN) 2008! This year’s conference will be held on November 14th, 15th, and 16th. Brown University’s beautiful and historic campus will once again welcome delegates from across the country for this stimulating and action-packed weekend. Our experienced and enthusiastic staff works hard each year to provide a Model United Nations experience that gives students the tools to understand and fully participate in debates about our rapidly changing global environment.

In an effort to build upon the innovations of BUSUNs past, including our delegate research facilities (generously sponsored by Dell Computers, Inc.), an exciting interconnected crisis as well as expanded historical crises, BUSUN 2008 will continue to focus on enhancing the individual delegate experience.  Following BUSUN 2007, we thoroughly reviewed delegate and advisor feedback to determine the most effective ways of improving our 2008 conference weekend.  It is obvious that delegates enjoy specialized committees, so this year we are offering more agencies and historical crisis committees.  In addition, our featured six-committee interconnected crisis will be accompanied by new committees ranging from the Organization of Islamic Conference on gender equality, the South Thailand Situation, and the move past oil dependency to a historical committee on the Diplomacy Cohesion in Tokugawa Japan.  Also, the Press Corps is back due to popular demand, so we will have our “BUSUN Buzz” throughout the conference weekend.  Even as we expand specialized committee offerings, we remain committed to ensuring that BUSUN remains capped at its manageable size and continues to offer topics for delegates of all levels of experience.

In order to assist both advisors and delegates alike, we will continue to employ our state-of-the-art website (www.busun.net), including fully electronic registration, research guides and resources for delegates, and up-to-date and essential conference information for advisors.  We again strive to provide timely and substantive communication to attendees both before and during our conference, making the BUSUN experience as seamless and uncomplicated as possible.

In the coming months, the BUSUN secretariat and staff will be working hard to create a conference that both advisors and delegates will enjoy and remember.  We take great pride in organizing one of the country’s best high school model United Nations.  We look forward to this November’s BUSUN weekend of fun and of one-of-a-kind interaction with global affairs.

See you in November,

Alma Guerrero & Amelia Plant
