Welcome

Dear Advisors and Delegates,

It is our distinct honor to invite you to the 2010 Brown University Simulation of the United Nations. Every November, our conference welcomes over 700 delegates from across North America for an exciting and memorable weekend of debate and interaction. This year’s conference will take place between November 12 and November 14, and will once again be held on our historic Providence, Rhode Island, campus.

Our committed staff is already hard at work to ensure that this year’s conference continues the tradition of providing an outstanding Model UN experience for participating delegates. As always, we here at BUSUN hope to give delegates a chance to delve into international issues, gaining new perspectives on current global challenges. Equally importantly, our conference strives to help delegates to grow in their abilities to effectively express and debate their opinions, as well as to work with others towards a common solution.

We are very enthusiastic about the line-up of committees being offered at this year’s conference. In addition to our standard set of United Nations bodies, we are also pleased to be present some new and exciting opportunities for delegates, including the Organization of American States, the International Olympic Committee (London 2012), UNAIDS, the IAEA, Interpol, and an NGO forum, among others. Our joint crisis program will feature Brazil, China, Russia, India, Pakistan, France, and the United States, and we will also be offering an East-Asian futuristic crisis featuring China, Japan, and the Republic of Korea. Finally, we will be hosting a number of historical committees from various regions and time periods. The total number of committees will increase over last year’s, meaning delegates can look forward to participating in smaller, more personalized committees.

Registration for our conference will be fully electronic this year, opening on our website by early April. Registration is handled on a first-come, first-served basis. We continue to process new registrations until September 24, unless we reach our conference capacity before that point. Last year, demand for our conference far exceeded available space, and the conference filled up quickly. We therefore recommend that schools that are planning to participate register as soon as possible.

In the coming months, the BUSUN team will be working hard to ensure that BUSUN 2010 is a success for all involved. As always, feel free to contact us at info@busun.net at any point with questions or concerns. We look forward to working with you to make BUSUN 2010 the best BUSUN yet. Thank you, and we hope to see you on College Hill this November!

Sincerely,

Jerry Cedrone and Andrew Berg
