Welcome
Dear Advisors and Delegates,
On behalf of the entire conference secretariat and staff, we are pleased and excited to invite you to the Brown University Simulation of the United Nations (BUSUN) 2009! This year’s conference will be held on November 13th, 14th, and 15th. Brown University’s beautiful and historic campus will once again welcome delegates from across the country for this stimulating and action-packed weekend. Our experienced and enthusiastic staff works hard each year to provide a Model United Nations experience that gives students the tools to understand and fully participate in debates about our rapidly changing global environment and pressing international issues.
Following BUSUN 2008, we thoroughly reviewed delegate and advisor feedback to determine the most effective ways of improving our 2009 conference weekend. We are definitely bringing back our second satellite delegate research facility (generously sponsored by Dell Computers, Inc.) to aid delegates in their research and resolution-writing. Also, it was obvious that delegates enjoyed specialized committees, so this year we are offering more agencies, cabinets and historical crisis committees. In addition to our traditional six-committee interconnected crisis, we will be offering new committees ranging from the Icelandic Cabinet, to a historical committee on the Congress of Vienna, to a mini-crisis between India and Pakistan set in the near future. The Press Corps will be back again due to popular demand, so we will have our “BUSUN Buzz” throughout the conference weekend. Even as we expand specialized committee offerings, we remain committed to ensuring that BUSUN remains capped at its manageable size and continues to offer committees and topics for delegates at all levels of experience.
In order to assist both advisors and delegates alike, we will continue to employ our state-of-the-art website (www.busun.net), including fully electronic registration, research guides and resources for delegates, and up-to-date essential conference information for advisors. We strive to provide timely and substantive communication to attendees both before and during our conference, making the BUSUN experience as seamless and uncomplicated as possible. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to direct your inquiries to info@busun.net.
In the coming months, the BUSUN secretariat and staff will be working hard to create a conference that both advisors and delegates will enjoy and remember. We take great pride in organizing one of the country’s best high school model United Nations conferences. We look forward to a fun and engaging BUSUN 2009!
See you in November,
Leah Fraimow-Wong and Lilia Royanova
